This is the main form of combat that has been implemented so far. The Arrest and Execute process allows a player character to capture another player character or NPC and, if so desired, may also terminate the arrested. There are currently some severe restrictions as to its use. First of all, usually an arrest warrant has to be issued, which either has to be provided by the faction the desired target is member of, or by a specially privileged faction (i.e. military or security faction). Further, arrests can only be made in certain territories, and various conditions have to be met to do so.

Whether the actual arrest attempt is successful also depends on several factors. Basically, the skill level of the player character arresting is checked against the respective skill(s) of the defender. A successful attempt means that the target is subsequently arrested. The arrested character has then only limited access to player functions, and is only able to use the forums and the darkness messaging system.

Combat consists of actions that are used to attack or defend from other players, NPCs, creatures, and other entities. There are a variety of different aspects to combat that are currently implemented.

Planetary Shields

See Shields

This is a defensive application, used to prevent unwanted passage of players to a planet's surface. If a Shield Generator is linked to a Computer Control Center, then anyone on the Computer Control Center's crewlist will have automatic access through the shield. Shields only prevent travel down to a planet's surface, anyone may ascend up through a shield.

Creature Combat

This is a form of combat where player characters use weapons to attack creatures that spawn on planet surfaces. See Creature Combat or Hunting for details and advice for engaging in creature combat.

Bandit Combat

This is a form of combat where player characters use weapons to attack bandit NPCs that spawn on planet surfaces. See Hunting for details and advice for engaging in bandit combat.

Space Combat (Alpha)

Space combat has been released in an "alpha" state and involves Player-controlled squadrons of fighter-, gunship-, and corvette-class ships as attacking hostile NPC-controlled ships in deep space asteroid fields. It is not yet possible to die from space combat; however, it is possible for your ship(s) to be destroyed. If your ship is destroyed, it will be turned into a wreck and you will be placed into an escape pod. It is highly recommended that you do not engage in space combat without a full squadron of ships.

As of Year 22 Day 362, hostile NPC-controlled ships may attack and destroy any combat-enabled ship (cargo containers, satellites, fighters, gunships, corvettes, light freighters and heavy freighters currently) in the same asteroid field. Bandits also have enhanced sensor effectiveness and as such may be able to attack you from outside of your own sensor range. It is highly recommended that you do not leave any combat-enabled ships idling in an asteroid field as they can be destroyed.

Player vs. Player Space Combat (Alpha)

Player vs. Player space combat has been released in an "alpha" state in the Petabys system, and surrounding deep space systems (96, 5) through (100, 1). In these systems, it is possible to attack (and be attacked by) other players when both players are flying combat enabled ships such as fighter-, gunship-, and corvette-class ships.

Player vs. Player Ground Combat (Beta)

Player vs. Player (PvP) ground combat has been released in a "beta" state in the Derra and Serroco systems. In these systems, it is possible to attack (and be attacked by) other players. While in beta, players cannot fall below 1 HP and will enter a stunned state when they reach 1 HP that will prevent them from moving, or attacking until they are unstunned.
