Mining

Mining is the process that is used in order to obtain Raw Materials that are used in the production of all entities within SWC.

Requirements

Several conditions have to be met before you can mine. The first is that there is actually a Raw Material deposit at that location. These deposits are found using Prospecting. They will only exist on terrain tiles on planets, and on cities. Once you have found a deposit of materials, you will need to lay a city slab at that location, if there is not one already there.

Once you have a city, you can then build a Mine in that city. It will need power. Mines also require Dirt Hauler NPCs in order to operate. You can use up to a maximum of 12. These NPCs must be owned by the mining faction involved with the mining (whether its the mine owner, or the manager) or by the operator of the mine. The more Dirt Haulers you have, the larger the possible extraction yield. If those are all met, then you will be almost ready to start mining.

Assinging Dirt Haulers

You need to assign the Dirt Haulers to the mine in order for them to be used. This is done as follows:

  •  ::Control::
  • Click [Position], and enter the Mine.
  • Use the arrows on the map below the horizontal bar to make your way to the Cockpit room.
  • Click [Building Management].
  • Click on [Actions] on the central horizontal bar.
  • Click on the [Mining] button on the left.
  • Click on the [Assign] button just to the right, under the horizontal bar.
  • ...

Mine Assignation

You have to meet one of two requirements in order to be able to mine:

  • Mine is owned by a mining faction: anyone can be assigned as Manager/Operator, and they can initiate/continue mining
  • Mine is not owned by a mining faction: a mining faction must be assigned as Manager, and the Operator must be a member of the same mining faction

Now you are ready to start mining.

Mining

To mine you need to meet the above requirements. Once this is done, the Operator will need to enter the mine and start up the mine from within the Cockpit room, as follows:

  •  ::Control::
  • Click [Position], and enter the Mine.
  • Use the arrows on the map below the horizontal bar to make your way to the Cockpit room.
  • Click [Building Management].
  • Click on [Actions] on the central horizontal bar.
  • Click on the [Mining] button on the left.
  • Click on the [Status] button just to the right, under the horizontal bar.
  • Type in the required extraction size (best to use the max extraction value, unless you want less).
  • Tick the 'repeat' option if you wish to repeat (see below).
  • Click the [Accept] button and mining will begin.

Mining will take 7 days, and at the end the extracted materials will be stored inside the mine. Mining will not be able to be started if there is insufficient space remaining in the mine. Silos that are owned by the same owner as the mine will allow materials to be moved there if there is insufficent space remaining, however there will be a cost incurred for this transfer.

Materials can be removed as normal, and this can be done while the mine is mining.

Repeat Mining

If you choose the 'repeat' option when starting mining, the mine will continue on a new round of mining after the previous run ends. This means that you do not have to return to the mine every week. However, the mine will stop working if the operator becomes ineligable, or there is insufficient room remaining in the mine or surrounding silos. In this case, repeat mining will also be prevented, and will need to be re-selected upon mine restart.
