Creating your Character
This will be one of the most important steps you do while playing SWC. What you choose here will likely stick with you until your character dies, so have a clear image in your mind as to what sort of character you wish to play.
Step 1
Here you can choose to either base your character on a pre-made template, or perform everything manually. For your first time it is suggested that you look through the pre-made template options first to get an idea of what you may need. However, it is best to then go back and run through the whole process manually so you can choose what you want exactly.
Step 2
Here there are several options available to you:
Gender
Select whether your character will be male or female. This will have no effect on the mechanics of the game, other than the server-based images that are available to you. Please note that it will be possible to change your image at a later time.
Skill Priorities
There are five different skill categories that you can set a priority for. This will determine that number of skill points you will have available to you to use in those skill areas. These are as follows:
Priority | Skill Points |
1 | 14 |
2 | 10 |
3 | 8 |
4 | 6 |
5 | 4 |
Race
This is where you choose which race of creatures you would like to play as. A drop down box gives a list of all the playable races. Selecting one will give you some relevant details about that race, as well as an image of what a member of that race would look like.
Force Probability
This is the chance that you will be sensitive to the The Force. The highest value obtained by a starting character is 6%. As you can see, planning on being able to use the Force is not a good strategy - many players spend years playing and still are not sensitive to the Force.
HP Bonus, Race Multiplier
These 2 values are used in the HP equations to determine how much health you start off with. Larger numbers mean more health.
Skill Bonuses
These are extra points that will be put into the skills listed. Because of the way skills work, if you want to max out a skill at character creation, you will need to find a race that has at least one skill bonus point in that skill.
Race Restrictions
Several races are limited in what vehicles and ships they have access to. Although it does not make the game unplayable, choosing one of these races will prove more challenging to play than races without such restrictions. To make up for these restrictions, such races tend to have higher stats in other areas.
Terrain Restrictions
This lists which terrain types that that race cannot move on without assistance. In general, all races cannot move on Gas Terrain and Volcanic Terrain. Most cannot move on Oceanic Terrain, but there are a few aquatic races that can.
Step 3
This step allows you to select your character's skills in line with what role you would like him or her to play. Will he be a daring fighter pilot? Will she make her fortune prospecting new worlds? You decide. The Skills are explained in more detail, but if you hove your mouse pointer over each skill name a tooltip will appear, giving a general explanation of the skill. Choosing a skill level is as simple as selecting the level in the drop down box. However, there is a limit to how many you can do. When you chose your Skill Priorities (see above) you determined how many skill points you would have available to use. You cannot use more than this, and you have to use up all your skill points before continuing. Skills have an increasing skill point requirement to get to increasingly higher levels. This follows the progression below:
Level | Points to upgrade to | Total points required |
1 | 1 | 1 |
2 | 1 | 2 |
3 | 2 | 4 |
4 | 4 | 8 |
5 | 7 | 15 |
Step 4
This is where you enter your character's description and biography. You need to type something in these 2 fields, but do not fret too much about it as you can always edit these later in the Character Page section. You also get to choose one of the race images available. Again, you can change your character's image later on the above page, so don't worry too much about which one you choose.
Step 5
This is the final step in character creation. You will be given an overview of everything you have selected for your character, allowing you to ensure this is the character you want to create. You can click the 'Back' button at any time to return to previous steps in the process and edit any attributes. Once you are happy with your character, click the 'Accept' button and you will have created your character. Congratulations!
Spawning
All that remains is to spawn your character. In order to streamline your experience and reduce waiting time, it is suggested that you refrain from spawning until you have chosen a faction. Once you have chosen a faction, you will be able to spawn at their HQ, allowing for faster access to full integration into the game.
