Arrest and Execute is the primary form of combat currently used against different players. It is more a form of police action than full blown combat, and as such there are a number of restrictions on who can use it, and where.

What Do I Need?

In order to be able to perform an arrest and an execution, you need to meet some requirements:

  • Be a member of a faction
  • Have the 'Arrest' privilege
  • Have a pair of Stun Cuffs equipped in your hands (if arresting a player)
  • Meet one of the territory requirements below

Government, Mercenaries, Bounty Hunter and Security Factions

These four factions are special in that they can arrest over a large variety of locations. They can both arrest their own members and NPCs (called In Faction arrest, or IF A/E) at any time, and in any location, regardless of which faction's territory they are in. They can arrest the members and NPCs of other factions and players (called Out Of Faction arrest, or OOF A/E) in the following areas:

  • Any planet they control
  • Any system they control
  • Any sector they control
  • Any capital ship they own
  • Any space station they own
  • Deep Space and uncontrolled sectors

These factions can also be authorised by other factions to be able to perform OOF arrests in any of their terrain, classified as below.

All Other Factions

All other factions are limited to arresting their own members (called In Faction arrest, or IF A/E). They can arrest their own members and NPCs at any time, and in any location, regardless of which faction's territory they are in. They can authorise Government, Mercenaries, Bounty Hunter and Security factions to arrest in their territory however, classified as the following areas:

  • Any planet they control
  • Any system they control
  • Any sector they control
  • Any capital ship they own
  • Any space station they own

Special Exceptions

There are several special conditions that modify who can arrest at a location:

  • Uncontrolled systems are considered territory for the faction that controls the sector it is in
  • Uncontrolled planets are considered territory for the faction that controls the system it is in
  • Capital ships in hyperspace are considered territory for the faction that owns it, otherwise no arrest is possible in hyperspace
  • Docked entities that are inside a Capital ship or Space Station are considered territory of the faction that owns the Capital ship or Space Station
  • The square above a planet is considered territory of that planet's controller, regardless of if the system controller is different

How Do I Arrest?

Arrest before.png

You will need to meet the requirements above. In addition, you will need to be at the same location as the player of NPC you are trying to arrest. You will need to have an Arrest Warrant issued before arresting (see below), otherwise you will not be able to arrest them. Once you have a warrant you need to use the Position page to initiate your arrest, as follows:

  •  ::Control::
  • Click [Position].
  • Click the [Scanner] button on the central horizontal bar.
  • Scroll through the list on the left to the player or NPC you wish to arrest.
  • Click the [Arrest] button underneath their name.
  • Click the confirmation button that appears on the right.
  • If there is no warrant, or you are arresting an NPC, you will be required to issue a warrant before confirmation.
  • The player or NPC is now arrested.

They will have the Arrest overlay put over their avatar image, allowing you to tell which are arrested, and which are not. In addition the Stun Cuffs will be unequipped from you and equipped on the arrested players hands (if you are arresting a player). In addition, any items that were equipped on the arrested player are dropped on the ground.

Issuing a Warrant

Warrants can be issued for both players and NPCs. NPCs do not have unique names, and so the warrant must be issued just as you arrest them. Players do have unique names, and so can have arrest warrants issued a long time before the arrest attempt is made. This is useful for preparing warrants and allowing members that do not have the 'Issue Arrest Warrant' Privilege to be able to arrest. However, like NPCs, player warrants can be issued when arresting them.

Success And Failure of Arrest

Arresting is not a guaranteed success and there are a variety of different variables that will determine whether you manage to arrest them or not. Players set up their arrest reactions, dependant on who is arresting them (see the Character options), while NPCs owned by a faction will use the reactions determine by the faction (see the Faction Page options). The person being arrested will determine which skills are used for the attempt, based on the reaction they choose. The possible reactions and the relevant skills are below:

Method Primary Skill Secondary Skill
Talk Diplomacy Trading
Run Speed Vigour
Hide Target: Stealth; arrester: Perception Dexterity
Fight Strength Projectile or Non-Projectile Weapons (whatever is higher)

Primary skills are used at their full value, while Secondary skills are used at half their value. There is also an element of randomness in the arrest chance.

Arrest Protection

If you are attempting to arrest a player or NPC that is not in or owned by your faction, and you fail, they will gain immunity to arrest. This immunity prevents anyone, from any faction arresting them, and lasts for 24 hours.

Releasing a prisoner, or failing to arrest a player or NPC in or owned by your faction will not activate this immunity.

You're Arrested, Now What?

Under arrest.png

When you are arrested, you will loose access to many of SWC features. These are primarily in-game activities, and being able to access forums etc will not be hindered. While arrested you can:

  • not move freely - you are at the whims of other players who can move you around
  • not access your Inventory pages (personal or faction)
  • not access you Faction Page
  • not leave or join a faction
  • send Messages
  • access the Forums

Release

After arrest

You can be released at any time. A player or NPC can be released from arrest by a member of the arresting faction who has issue arrest privileges. A player or NPC can also be broken out of arrest by another character at the same location who has an Electronic Lock Breaker item equipped. The Stun Cuffs that were equipped on the arrested player will be dropped at that location.

Drop Character

If a character has been arrested for more then 3 weeks he will get the option to turn his character into an NPC and recreate as a new character. The NPC will have the same handle and race as the character had. Any assets will follow the same rules as when a character is killed. The button to drop your character will appear in The Interface area, under your character image three weeks after you have been arrested.

The waiting time after dropping a character is one week.

Execution

Once a player or NPC is arrested, you can then execute them. Anyone that has the relevant privs in the faction that originally arrested can perform an execution.

To perform an execution, you need to do the following:

  •  ::Control::
  • Click [Position].
  • Click the [Scanner] button on the central horizontal bar.
  • Scroll through the list on the left to the player or NPC you wish to arrest.
  • Click the [Arrest] button underneath their name.
  • Click the [Execute] button that appears on the right.
  • Click the confirmation button.
  • The player or NPC is now killed.

Upon Death a couple of things are possible. When an NPC is killed, they no longer exist, and leave nothing behind. Players that are executed will leave a 'Body' on the ground that can be seen in the [Scanners] page. This body will remain for 3 weeks before disappearing. You can remove a trophy ear from this body if you so wish (see below). Assets that player owned will be distributed amongst the galaxy as per the death rules (see earlier link).

Trophies

You can cut off a Trophy so long as you have a bladed Non-Projectile Weapon such as a Knife. To do so, do the following:

  •  ::Control::
  • Click [Position].
  • Click the [Scanner] button on the central horizontal bar.
  • Scroll through the list on the left to the body you wish to get a trophy from.
  • Click the [Get Trophy] button underneath their name.
  • Pick up the Trophy item using the [Equipment] page.
